What Does It Mean to Be Living in Maintenance?

Living in Maintenance means you’ve crossed an important threshold—not just in weight, but in your relationship with food and life itself.

You're in Maintenance when you’ve had a prior challenge with weight, disordered eating, and/or an addictive relationship with food. Today, your weight has been relatively stable for at least a year, and you’re no longer trying to lose or gain. Your Body Roundness Index (BRI) is below 6.91, placing you outside the highest health-risk category.

More importantly, you are Devoted—steadfast in a self-defined way of eating, daily habits, and support structures that truly work for you. You are Resourced—no longer relying on food as your primary coping mechanism for life’s stressors. And you are Liberated—free from constant food and weight struggles, with the mental and emotional space to focus on what matters most in your life.

Maintenance isn’t about perfection. It’s about stability, freedom, and living fully.

Why Join the Maintenance Database?

The Maintenance Database exists to honor, understand, and learn from people who are truly living free.

By joining, you help:

Advance understanding of long-term recovery from chronic weight struggles, food addiction, and/or disordered eating.

Inform future programs, research, and support designed specifically for those in Maintenance.

Give voice to success—not just weight loss, but sustainable freedom and well-being.

As a member of the database, you may be invited to participate in surveys, research initiatives, or special opportunities designed to deepen our collective understanding of what supports and promotes long-term freedom from food and weight struggles.

If you are living in Maintenance, your experience matters. Your stability, insight, and freedom can help light the path for others.
